Throughout this dark moment, a flash hit the city and ignited the fire within the youth and some older generations, and that flash was the new organization within the city of sin known as More Than A Hashtag (MTAH).

After the execution of Jorge Gomez, some youth community members sprung into quick action throughout the darkness just like both The flash and Batman would have in the infamous DC comics.

They took LVMPD head-on by direct actions that consisted of applying pressure on officials to release the bodycam footage and building footage from the surrounding federal buildings.

Few months after the execution of Jorge Gomez we found out thanks to this pressure being applied that LVMPD had officers out there without any, body cams and that the officers that engaged in the execution of Jorge Gomez were being trained and didn’t have body cams as well.

After the first press conference from LVMPD didn’t release any names of any officers involved in the execution, MTAH continued to apply pressure on city officials and LVMPD to release the names of those involved.

After legal pressure started being applied alongside the pressure of MTAH LVMPD and city officials had no other choice than to release the names of the five officers involved in the execution of Jorge Gomez.

The five officers involved in the execution of Jorge Gomez were Vernon Ferguson, Ryan Fryman, Daniel Emerton, Andrew Locher, and John Squeo all officers together shot 19 times that ended the life in execution-style of Jorge Gomez.

Once the name of the officers’ was released MTAH took the matter into their own hands and applied pressure to these officers and making their neighbors aware that they had murderers around them, the officers felt so pressured that they had to ask for security from their fellow officers.

Over the past months since the execution back on June 1st, 2020, and since the names of the officers were released MTAH kept applying pressure alongside other community organizers and activist they were able to apply pressure to the point that major news outlets were picking up the story for the first time in almost a year.

While local news organizations were feeding a false narrative that helped lobby for the LVMPDs case national and international outlets started picking up the story and acknowledging the true narrative of the story and that was that LVMPD executed Jorge Gomez.

Thanks to MTAH people were beginning to listen and acknowledge the truth about what happened on that dark day that brought a flash that ignited the fire within many in the valley that at the end mounted up the needed pressure to release the needed videos.

Videos were finally released on February 22nd, 2021 almost a full year later after the execution, in which the community found out the truth they already knew and that was that Jorge Gomez was executed in cold blood by LVMPD officers, even though they claimed that they saw Jorge Gomez have a “bat” or “raised his gun” the videos proved otherwise.

After videos were released MTAH continue to add pressure to have the officer involved get arrested, LVMPD proceeded on having a fact finding review at the Clark County Courthouse where they admit to their wrongdoing by agreeing with the people that Jorge Gomez was not a threat to them in any shape or form.

Few days after the fact finding review, officer John Squeo placed his resignation within LVMPD and has since April 27th, 2021. After his departure from the force, news broke that officer Squeo, bit someone at a bar a few days after he committed murder against Jorge Gomez therefore he was placed on leave March 21st, 2021 which later led to him stepping down.

Out of the five officers involved MTAH alongside, the community and all those who felt touched and or affected by the murder of Jorge Gomez were able to get some sort of action against the officer and that’s having one of their accomplices step down. Although it isn’t a conviction like many would have hoped, it is one huge step forward for the community that is trying to stand its ground all while trying to not be murdered by those that swore an oath to serve and protect.
