Five years ago, much of the indigenous and black youth felt the call to action by seeing mother earth die within their communities, while an increase of corruption and an inequitable world thrived.

Such things happening around the world inspired a group of women of color to organize in Southern Paiute Territory aka, “Las Vegas, Nevada” which, led them to start an organization known as Fifth Sun Project.

The Fifth Sun Project started in 2016; these brave warriors took it amongst themselves to organize within southern Paiute territory and unite the community by uplifting small businesses, artists, vendors, performers, creators, activists, and organizers. In the name of community organizing and funding.

In the past five years, they have managed to create weekly feeding programs for the houseless community and weekly park cleaning programs with the help of other local organizations, volunteers, and activists.

Fifth Sun project has created great programs for the community to help those in need. All while creating a safe space where all communities can network, create art, and above all, survive within a capitalist society we are all made to live within by creating events.

This last event hosted over 15-20 vendors, artists, organizers, and a car show, to support the protection of Peehee Mu’huh (Thacker Pass), Which is indigenous land that company Lithium Americas say is the largest lithium resource in the United States of America. All while ignoring that the land belongs to the indigenous people.

Not only did they raise funds to support Peehee Mu’huh (Thacker Pass) they also were able to raise funds to support local street vendors, the funds; were distributed through another local organization. From weekly clean-ups to weekly feedings, all the way to events for the community Fifth Sun Project does not end to amaze us; please make sure to support them by following their socials and staying up to date in any way possible.
