LV Community of Hope and The Promise are two organizations that have teamed up to help the unhoused community in Las Vegas. The founder of LV Community of Hope, Ahlam Hamdan, initiated the Mutual Aid project after volunteering with New Leaf Community in 2020. Ahlam was inspired by the idea of bringing people together to support and benefit one another, and decided to create a community fridge to provide food and other necessities for those in need.

However, due to setbacks and the onset of the pandemic, the project had to be put on hold until this year. Ahlam reached out to Diana, the founder of The Promise, to propose the idea of working together to support the unhoused community. Diana was already doing a lot of community work within different encampments and was excited to join forces with LV Community of Hope.

Together, Ahlam and Diana were able to connect with James, who had a pantry that he needed a purpose for. They put the pantry in a specific encampment and started providing hot meals, hygiene packs, and water to those in need.

In addition to providing food and necessities, LV Community of Hope and The Promise also strive to create a sense of community and belonging among the unhoused. They believe that building relationships and getting to know the individuals they are helping is just as important as providing charity.

The organizations have received a lot of support from the community, with people donating their time, resources, and money to help make a difference. However, they still face challenges, such as limited finances and the criminalization of poverty in Las Vegas. Despite these challenges, Ahlam and Diana remain determined to make a lasting impact on the unhoused community and work towards a future where unhoused people are not treated as a problem.

The Promise, Co-Founded by Diana, focused on helping unhoused individuals raise funds for legal documentation and other necessities to get back on their feet.
