Undermining Security Culture

Infiltration is a tactic that has been used for centuries by governments, military organizations, and other groups to gather information, disrupt the activities of perceived threats or rivals, and influence public opinion. It involves entering a group or organization covertly or under false pretenses to gather information or influence the group’s activities.

As a protestor, it is important to be aware of the potential for infiltration at public events and demonstrations. Infiltration can be used by authorities or other groups to gather intelligence, disrupt the activities of a protest or demonstration, or spread propaganda or misinformation. This can undermine the integrity and effectiveness of a protest or demonstration, and it can create mistrust and division within a movement or cause.

One well-known example of infiltration is COINTELPRO, a secret FBI program that was active in the 1950s and 60s. This program involved infiltrating and surveilling political organizations and individuals in the United States, including civil rights groups and anti-war activists. The program was revealed in 1971 and led to significant criticism and reforms.

The use of infiltration has also been employed for psychological operations or psyops. These operations aim to influence the attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of individuals or groups through propaganda, deception, and other means. A psyops operation may involve infiltrating an organization or group to gather information or influence its activities or decision-making processes.

To protect against infiltration at public events and demonstrations, it is important to implement strong security protocols and to be aware of one’s surroundings. This can include avoiding sharing personal information or sensitive information online or in public and using secure communication methods. It is also important to approach all information and events with a critical eye and to verify the accuracy and authenticity of information before taking action or making decisions based on it.

It is important to be aware of the potential for infiltration at public events and to take steps to protect against it. By implementing strong security protocols and being aware of one’s surroundings, protestors can help to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of their demonstrations and movements.
