Veterans, Children and Students Tear Gassed By LVMPD

On the evening of June 11, 2025, hundreds of protesters gathered in Las Vegas to peacefully demonstrate, part of a broader national response to ongoing human rights concerns and rising political tensions. The event was spearheaded by anonymous local organizers, one of whom was known only as Anonfrom702, who coordinated through a Reddit forum called “Vegas Strikes.” With support from the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) Las Vegas, organizers successfully mobilized a significant and diverse crowd that reflected the city’s broad demographics, drawing students, veterans, parents, and concerned citizens alike.

The early hours of the demonstration were marked by calm, unity, and a sense of shared purpose. Music filled the air, turning streets into a communal space for expression and solidarity. Protesters chanted slogans aligned with broader national movements, advocating for justice, equity, and constitutional rights. However, this peace was briefly disrupted when a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat reportedly initiated a physical altercation by attacking a protester. Despite this clear act of aggression, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) did not make an arrest or visibly intervene, sparking questions regarding their response strategy and potential bias in enforcement.

Tensions escalated after sunset. At precisely 9:02 PM, LVMPD posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), declaring the assembly unlawful. The message was abrupt and left many wondering whether protesters were given sufficient time or notice to disperse. According to numerous firsthand accounts and social media videos, the dispersal order was not audibly heard on the ground until approximately 30 to 45 minutes after the online announcement. Yet, within minutes of the tweet, law enforcement began deploying tear gas and engaging in crowd control measures, including kettling and advancing in tactical formation. What had been a peaceful, lawful protest rapidly devolved into chaos, not from the protesters’ actions, but due to the swift and forceful police escalation.

These actions have drawn sharp criticism. The central questions now being raised are: If the protest was deemed unlawful, why did the authorities fail to immediately remove the aggressor and de-escalate tensions earlier in the evening? If children and families were present, why were non-lethal but harmful methods like tear gas used so indiscriminately? Furthermore, if a legal dispersal order was issued, why was it neither heard nor understood by much of the crowd until the crackdown had already begun?

In the aftermath, the protest organizer offered the following statement: “I feel that it went great! We need people in the streets in every major city, and that doesn’t exclude Vegas. Human rights violations cannot go without acknowledgment. I’m proud of everybody who showed up, and I look forward to gathering with everyone in the near future. Protesting is our right as Americans, and allowing Trump to threaten us out of using it is something we can’t allow to happen. No matter the resistance, we will keep organizing for those who need to be spoken for.”

Among the many voices present that night, one veteran’s comment stood out. Speaking to a nearby child, the veteran remarked: “What they are doing is unconstitutional. Citizen or not, they are in the wrong.” The statement echoed the frustration and disbelief shared by many, especially those who had participated with the belief that their rights would be honored and safeguarded.

As additional video footage and eyewitness reports continue to emerge, the June 11 protest is becoming a flashpoint in broader discussions around law enforcement conduct, the criminalization of dissent, and the state of civil liberties in the United States. The situation demands transparency, accountability, and a renewed commitment to upholding the right to peaceful assembly. The nation, once again, must reckon with the question: Are peaceful protesters truly being protected, or are they being punished for exercising their democratic rights?

  1. Of course the rally went bad when the Trumper was there to start trouble and stir up shit. This is what Trump does all the time. I wouldn’t doubt that this was a Paid Trumper to star trouble.
