Concerns Over School District Safety

An investigation of public documents and media reporting spanning 2020–2025 shows that the Clark County School District (CCSD)

has faced repeated allegations of sexual assault, staff misconduct, and other serious campus-safety incidents — challenges that continue to affect students, staff, and the broader community.

In November 2025, local police announced the arrest of a CCSD teacher, Anthony Coffield, was charged with two counts of sexual assault, one count of a school employee engaging in a sexual act with a pupil 16 or older.

According to the arrest report, the investigation followed allegations brought by a student at a high school within the district.

This recent case arrives as part of a broader context of documented violence and misconduct across the district.

Records from the 2021–22 school year — previously reported publicly — list 5,350 calls for service involving fights, assaults or battery, harassment or threats, and 66 incidents classified as sexual assault.

In response to escalating safety concerns, CCSD implemented revised disciplinary and security measures.

Some campuses adopted stricter entry protocols, and the district updated its conduct codes and reporting guidelines to address violent behavior and sexual misconduct.

Despite these measures, several court filings in 2025 indicate that families continue to challenge the district in federal court over alleged failures to protect students.

These lawsuits argue that CCSD or individual staff members allowed hostile or unsafe environments to persist — including claims of racial harassment, physical assault, and sexual abuse.

Records also show patterns of staff-on-student misconduct predating the current wave of cases.

In one documented instance, a teacher was accused of physical and verbal abuse against a disabled student.

A child-welfare agency investigation concluded there was evidence of abuse, and school authorities were notified.

The accumulation of reports, allegations, civil cases, and recent criminal charges paints a picture of a district still grappling with institutional safety and accountability.

Publicly available information reveals that the problem is not limited to isolated incidents — the volume and variety of cases suggest systemic vulnerability.

For parents, students, and community members, the stakes remain high. Each new case renews the demand for transparent reporting, consistent prevention efforts, and firm accountability for staff and leadership.

Without such changes, the repeated harms may continue, and the trust between families and public education could erode further.
